FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When should i place my order with kitchen doula?

It's a great idea to book Kitchen Doula in advance or to encourage friends and family to purchase gift certificates so you can rest easy, knowing food will be on its way. We will take note of your due date and expect to start cooking for you as soon as you've had your baby. This is also a good thing to plan for when you or your partner goes back to work. Advance booking is not required, but please note that, because everything is made completely from scratch especially for you, we cannot deliver on the day you order. We will strive to set a delivery date for you within three days of when you book.

How many do your meals feed?

Our meals are designed for either lunch or dinner for two adults. Our portions are very generous and meals usually include at least one item that can be frozen or kept for later. If you have other mouths to feed, perhaps a toddler or in-law, you can easily add extra portions when you visit the Book Now page. Options include portions for adults and kids.

Where do you deliver?

Our delivery fee is included in the price for drop-offs in Berkeley and Oakland. Deliveries within 10 miles in the East Bay--including Alameda, San Leandro, and El Cerrit0--require an additional fee of $20, deliveries to San Francisco a fee of $25, and deliveries to within 20 miles a fee of $45. If you live farther than 20 miles from Oakland, please email us before booking. Please note that delivery fees are per order, not per meal, so we recommend ordering more meals at once to reduce delivery expenses.

What if i have special dietary needs?

We offer vegan, gluten-free, and kosher-style options. Meals cooked in a kosher kitchen are available by specific request, and may require a slightly longer wait. When you check out, there will be an opportunity to indicate any specific foods we should avoid. In general, we do not cook anything spicy or with too much garlic or other foods that can be unsettling to breast-feeding babies. If you have dietary requirements that extend beyond this, please email us and we will happily work to accommodate you, within reason.

Do you cook for anyone other than new parents?

Yes! While we love feeding new moms & dads so they can spend time focused on their baby, we know that lots of other people could use some food support too.  If you are taking care of a loved one in the hospital, cooking for a big, busy family, or just want a special dinner prepared for you, we're here to help. Event catering is available by special request.
